ACP Journal Club. Review: varenicline is better than bupropion but not nicotine patch for smoking abstinence in adults.

Commentary The updated systematic review by Cahill and colleagues has several new findings that are useful for clinicians. First, cytisine, a low-cost plant-derived agent from Eastern Europe, had a modest increase in quit rates across 2 high-quality trials. A previous review found that earlier trials were of low quality (1), and publication bias is likely given that the drug had been studied in regions where there was a tradition of publishing only positive research (2).
